RVC 66 Reunion 2017 held in Tintern

Location

Tintern Abbey

The 2017 Reunion was hosted by Mike and Sandie Roper in Tintern in the beautiful and scenic Wye Valley.

There are various walks from the hotel along the river or up to the Devils Pulpit. Also lots of coffee shops and of course the Abbey itself. Flat walks at Tintern Station about a couple of miles away along with a museum and good coffee and snacks. Oh and a zip wire for those keen ones!

The Hotel

Royal George Tintern

The event was held at the Royal George Hotel. A comfortable smaller hotel with garden rooms furnished with notably capacious beds making for an excellent night's sleep.

The management and staff were very welcoming and friendly making us feel immediately at home.

Our group virtually filled the hotel so we had undivided attention and excellent personal service at the bar from James who we kept rather busy.

Friday evening

Anchor Inn Tintern

On Friday evening we had an excellent dinner at the Anchor Inn close to the Abbey itself. Mike and Sandie had asked for our choices previously and thankfully had kept a list to be able to direct food to the appropriate diners. Stroke of genius!

With very attentive and friendly staff we had a fun time and enjoyed some very good food.

Jonathan kept us amused with one of his 'real life' veterinary tales from his days in Dover. I won't repeat it here but I later heard that our waiter who overheard it told it to the rest of the staff to roars of applause!

Saturday Dinner & Photos!

Saturday

Saturday turned out to be a warm sunny day and guests took the chance to take some lovely country walks and to visit some local places of interest. A number visited Tintern Station known for it's award winning tearoom and walks. Others drove the short distance to Monmouth for a quick look at this historic county town.

Devils Pulpit Devils Pulpit Tintern Abbey

The view of the Abbey from the Devil's Pulpit was well worth the long and taxing uphill walk. Lunch at the Brockweir Country Inn was a welcome stop on the way back.
